It was a day like this 79 years ago, and more specifically on the 3rd of March 1924 that the kuffar were able to reap the fruits of their tireless efforts of plotting and planning, which they had expended for more than a hundred years. This happened when the criminal English agent, Mustafa Kemal (socalled Ataturk, the ‘Father of the Turks’!) announced that the Grand National Assembly had agreed to destroy the Khilafah; and announced the establishment of a secular, irreligious, Turkish republic after washing his hands from responsibility of the remaining Islamic lands which the kuffar occupied in the First World War.
Since that day the Islamic ummah has lived a life full of calamities; she was broken up into small mini states controlled by the enemies of Islam in every aspect. The Muslims were oppressed and became the object of the kuffar’s derision in Kashmir, Philippines, Thailand, Chechnya, Iraq, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Palestine and other lands belonging to the Muslims until what happened to the Muslims became the subject of studies and statistics. Thousands were killed, millions dispossessed and the honour of tens of thousands has been violated amongst other calamities. Anyone who reads the papers or hears the news always finds the Muslims under a state of oppression, humiliation and killings; and this is prevalent in every report.
How many oppressed peoples are there in the Islamic ummah who have no one to redress the injustice done to them; and how many people’s innocent blood has been spilled without anyone to protect them; and how many pure Muslim women have cried after their honour was violated without anyone to avenge them? The Sultan of Islam used to treat the kuffar with fairness, protect them, their honour and their dignity; yet today there is no one to take care of the oppressed Muslims and protect their honour. O Muslims! We are at such a state that there is none from amongst us that does not shed tears when he sees the Muslims being humiliated and dispossessed. Who from us does not feel the pain when he hears the cries of Muslim women ring in his ear and whose emotions are not shaken? There is no one from us who is not grieved for the Muslim children who are killed in cold blood at the hands of the Jews in Palestine and at the hands of America and Britain in Iraq and Afghanistan. By Allâh, had we not been believers in Allâh and trusting in His help, then some of us would have died out of sadness for what is happening to our Muslim brothers everywhere. The life of a Muslim is filled with misery and distress; he sees his ummah weak, humiliated, afflicted and hurt every day and furthermore witnesses the loss of her authority, standing and dignity. Indeed, the ummah is not in a situation as she used to be under the banner of Islam, when she used to be ruled by the Khilafah state that united the Muslims. She was not divided as we see today by borders drown up by the kafir colonialists or dispersed by oppressive laws of residence. The Muslim used to travel from one corner of the Muslim lands to another without anyone asking him who he was or describing him as a foreigner. When the Khilafah existed the Muslims witnessed the power of Islam through the power of the Khilafah. They led the word under the banner of the Khilafah that applied Islam and conveyed it as a message, guidance and light to the world. However, where is the Khilafah? It existed in the past, but it was destroyed and suspended as a system. However, it will come back again soon, insha Allâh.
O Muslims in Turkey!
What reminds us more than anyone else of the destruction of the Khilafah is the pride of the rulers of Turkey in what they call, ‘revolutions and Kemalist principles’ which were nothing but revolutions against the Khilafah state and the deen of Islam. These revolutions were undertaken by Mustafa Kemal to please his English masters. In those days the ummah lived through a critical period where the British stipulated the following 4 conditions, beside other conditions, in the Lausanne conference in order to recognise the independence of Turkey; they were:
1. Complete abolition of the Khilafah and the expulsion of the Khaleefah and seizure of his property.
2. Turkey should promise to suppress any movement undertaken by the supporters of Khilafah.
3. Turkey should cut her links with Islam.
4. Turkey should adopt a secular constitution instead of its constitution derived from the rules of Islam.
The National Assembly met in Turkey and Mustafa Kemal addressed the people by saying, "Was it not because of the Khilafah, Islam and the clerics that the Turkish peasants have fought and lost their lives for five centuries? It is high time Turkey attended to her interests, ignored the Indians and the Arabs and saved herself from the burden of leading the Islamic lands." Mustafa Kemal was the one who put forward to the Assembly a decree enjoining the abolishment of the Khilafah saying, "We must at all costs safeguard the endangered republic and make her rise upon solid scientific bases. The Khaleefah and the legacies of the Ottoman family must go, the dilapidated religious courts and their laws must be replaced by modern courts and laws, and the cleric’s schools must concede their place to official secular schools." In the morning of the third day of March 1924, it was announced that the Greater National Assembly had approved the abolishment of the Khilafah and the separation of the deen from the state. On the same night, Mustafa Kemal sent an order to the governor of Istanbul stipulating that the Khaleefah, Abdul Majid should leave Turkey before the dawn of the next day. So the governor went accompanied with a garrison from the police to the Khaleefah’s palace in the middle of the night; and the Khaleefah was forced to climb aboard a car that took him across the borders. Two days later, Mustafa Kemal gathered all the throne’s princes and princesses and deported them outside the country. In this way the Khilafah was destroyed and Mustafa Kamal implemented the conditions of the Lausanne conference that were demanded by Curzon, the foreign secretary. The Lausanne agreement was signed in 1924 and the states recognized the independence of Turkey. Shortly after this some English MP’s violently protested against Curzon in the House of Commons for recognizing the independence of Turkey. Curzon then replied by saying, "the point at issue is that Turkey has been destroyed and shall never rise again, because we have destroyed her spiritual power: the Khilafah and Islam."
Those were critical nights in which the political entity of the Muslims was destroyed. At that time the Islamic ummah was supposed to raise its sword in the face of this treacherous agent who changed Dar al-Islam into Dar al-Kufr and realized for the kuffar a dream they had wished for a long time. However, the Islamic ummah was overwhelmed, in the worst state of decline. So the crime took place and the kuffar tightened their grasp over the Islamic lands and tore it up into pieces. They divided the one ummah into nationalities, ethnicities and tribes; they tore up the single country into homelands and regions in which they established borders and barriers. In place of a single Khilafah state they established cartoon states and installed rulers as agents to carry out the orders of their kuffar masters. They abolished the Islamic Sharee’ah from the sphere of ruling, economy, international relations, domestic transactions and the judiciary. They separated the deen from the state and confined the Islamic deen to certain rituals, like those in Christianity. They worked to destroy the Islamic culture and uproot the Islamic thoughts to plant in their place western thoughts and culture.
O Muslims!
The Islamic ummah did not find any honour and dignity except when Islam used to lead her and the Khilafah state used to rule her. Look at how the ummah today, facing the 79th year since the destruction of the Khilafah, suffers under the rules of kufr which have cut her unity, torn up her body, deprived her of the blessing of living under the system of her Lord and barred her from the Khilafah Rashidah that should rule her by truth and justice. She is, instead, ruled by some of her own sons by kufr systems and rules which do not emanate form her ‘aqeedah. The Khilafah state is fundamental to the application of the Islamic rules; and its presence is the Shar’ee method defined by Islam to implement and execute these rules and to carry Islam as message of Guidance and Light to the world. This is because Islam is a universal message for the whole of mankind. He (swt) said,
"And so judge (you O Muhammad - saw) between them by that which Allah has revealed and follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they turn you (O Muhammad - saw) far away from some of that which Allah has sent down to you" [al-Maa’idah: 49].
He (swt) willed that the Islamic ummah should reawaken again and revive from her decline and realise that her rescue is only by the re-establishment of the Khilafah. One of the most important fundamentals of Islam, after the Islamic ‘aqeedah is the Khilafah state. Without the Khilafah, the Islamic lands will remain torn up and the Islamic peoples will remain divided. Without the Khilafah, the kafir, crusader and colonial states will continue to control us, plunder our resources and create divisions amongst us. Without the Khilafah, the Jews will continue to occupy our sacred places and kill and humiliate our brothers in Palestine. Without the Khilafah, the Islamic peoples in Bosnia, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kashmir, Uzbekistan and so on will continue to be killed. They will continue to be expelled from their homes, their mosques will be destroyed and their honour will be violated, all these calamities without anybody coming to their rescue. Without the Khilafah, those Muslims who do not work seriously for its implementation will be sinful and incur the anger of Allâh . even if they fast, pray, make Hajj and pay Zakah. This is because the work to establish the Khilafah Rashidah is a fard on every Muslim, and it should be conducted with the most extreme effort and utmost speed.
O Muslims!
The Khilafah Rashidah on the way of the Prophethood is coming soon by the help of Allâh. Its prerequisites in terms of system and statesmen are present. The voices of the Muslims in all parts of the world from Turkey to Nigeria, and from Uzbekistan to Indonesia are resoundingly demanding its return. It will come back despite the efforts and money spent by the kuffar and the agents to prevent its return. So strengthen your resolve and work seriously with the sincere da’wah carriers who are working to re-establish the Khilafah, so that you may attain the victory that Allâh has promised. Just as the Khilafah was destroyed 79 years ago in Turkey, let the Khilafah Rashidah be declared again in Turkey. He (swt) said:
"Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear, (provided) they (believers) worship Him and do not associate anything (in worship) with Him. But whoever disbelieved after this, they are the Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)" [ An-Noor :55].
